By Our Correspondent, 17/04/2018, Agartala

Keeping in mind the auspicious occasion of Akhshay Tritiya, Governor Tathagata Roy will be moving to the new Raj Bhawan on Wednesday. The state is all set for the inauguration of the new Raj Bhawan.

Governor Tathagata Roy on Tuesday visited the site of the new Raj Bhawan at Agartala Capital Complex area near the secretariat building. Roy was accompanied by other officials.

The construction work for building the new Raj Bhawan was started from the month of May, 2014.

The Puspavanta Palace at Kunjavan, constructed in 1917 by Maharaja Birendra Kishore Manikya, is currently being used as the state's Raj Bhavan.

Mackintosh Burn, a West Bengal government enterprise, has been assigned to build the two-storied building with an estimated cost of Rs 30 crore. The building was scheduled to be completed within two and half years. Puspavanta Palace, a heritage building, was built in accordance with the then architectural methods and was not earthquake resistant.

This palace had been made Raj Bhavan because of its association with royalty and the fact that Rabindranath Tagore and other great personalities of that time had stayed in it on different occasions as royal guests.

It has also come to knowledge that CM Biplab Kumar Deb will be also moving to CM Official resident tomorrow.
